Grading and Assessment Schedule

Students will take two spelling assessments each week.  On Mondays, students will participate in a pretest and on Fridays, students will take a final exam.  Monday's pretest grade will not be recorded in your child's gradebook.  However, Friday's final assessment will be recorded in your child's gradebook and it will be an essential part of determining your student's 9 week grade.  Spelling test grading policy is as follows:

  1. 5 points will be deducted for the improper use of capitals within a word or for mis-formed letters.
  2. In the latter half of the second semester, students will be expected to use cursive writing exclusively.  We will switch to this policy around April.  The above mentioned point deductions will apply and 5 points will be deducted for the use of print instead of the required cursive writing technique.
  3. Points will be deducted on a per word basis.  For example a word with two point deduction errors would only have 5 points deducted from the overall total.
