Math Facts Assessment and Mastery

Over the course of the school year, we will be working towards mastering multiplication facts.  A corner stone to understanding multiplication is the mastery of addition.  As a result, students will focus on mastering a specific set of facts every week from August to October. Each Friday students will be tested over these math facts through the use of timed math facts assessments.

At the conclusion of our addition review cycle, students will have a small math celebration complete with snacks and rewards.  In order to participate in this reward, students must master 80% or more of their addition facts.

In October, we will begin working towards mastering multiplication facts from 0-12.  Students will be assigned a set of facts to memorize over a specific period of time.  We will continue working on timed math facts assessments during this phase, with an emphasis on mastering mulitplication.  Students will be tested each week over that week's skill.   Student progress will be monitored throughout the year and progress reports will be sent home for your review.

At the conclusion of the year, every child that masters their multiplication facts will recieve a reward at the end of the testing cycle.  In addition, students will compete in a math bee competition for the designation of Math Student of the Year.
