Accelerated Reading
In addition to our reading curriculum, Accelerated Reader is incorporated into our daily schedule. AR is a great tool to help your child become a lifelong reader! Student Accelerated Reading goals are specific to their reading level and will be updated each grading period. Your child’s reading level and point goals are based on their STAR diagnostic test, and on their current success in AR. At the conclusion of each grading period, we will celebrate reaching our reading goals with a class reward. As long as your child completes his or her reading assignment nightly, they should reach their AR goal. A student must reach their AR goal in order to participate in the class reward.
Assigned AR reading time is typically a minimum of 20 minutes each day as indicated in the homework section above, but students should also spend additional time reading at home to further their progress. Appropriately leveled books are available in our school media center and at the public library. Students will have an opportunity to checkout books from the media center once a week.
