Monday

Read decodable reader June and Mule.

** Parent/Grandparent/Child Thanksgiving lunch on Tuesday. We will eat at about 10:45.  I hope to see you there. 

***  Please send your child to school with a warm coat everyday.  We go outside to the playground as long as the temperature is at or above 40 degrees. 

Tuesday

Read decodable reader Luke Meets Duke.

** Field Trip on Wednesday.   We will be eating at the school immediately following our trip.  Please send your child to school with a warm coat.  

Wednesday

** Santa Pictures Thursday**

Thursday

  Read Life in the Forest.  Bring back signed paper stating you read the assignment.

Study for vocabulary and spelling tests on Friday.

**  Multicultural Fair on Friday - Please send in any items you have representing the country of Japan.  The first grade will be hosting the booth on Japan this year. 

Friday

New vocabulary and spelling words sent home today.  Words for each test are posted on the website as well.  Exam next Friday.

Reading, Spelling and Vocabulary

 Weekly schedule begining September 1, 2008:

 Below is an outline of our weekly homework schedule.  It contains a list of the routine homework assignments your child will be expected to complete.  You will notice that reading homework is assigned every day with the exception of Friday.  Continued reading is essential, particularly in the first grade, for academic success. 

In addition to the reading, spelling, and vocabulary assignments mentioned below, your child will also recieve additional homework assignments, which will be posted daily.  You may access these assignments by clicking on the homework tab and then scrolling down to the appropriate date. 

In total, your child's homework should take about 30-40 minutes a day.  However, any classwork not completed in class will be sent home as homework, which may increase this expected timeframe.

Monday -

  1. Vocabualary Words are introduced in class.  Students should begin reviewing these words nightly.  Test on Friday.
  2. Spelling words are introduced in class.  Students should begin reviewing these words nightly.  Test on Friday.
  3. Reading selection. (small black and white copy paperback book)

Tuesday -

  1. Reading selection (small black and white paperback)

Wednesday -

  1. Reading selection (type and length of book to be determined weekly)

Thursday

  1. Read both reading selections for the week from hardback reading book.  Test over these selections will be on Friday.
  2. Review spelling and vocabulary words for test on Friday.

Friday

No homework. 

New spelling and vocabulary words for the next week will be sent home in Friday folders.
