Barbara McCay

Welcome to Mrs. McCay's Fifth Grade

Dear Parents and Students,

To have a successful partnership with you, I would like you to know some things about me.

I was born in Savannah, TN, but my parents moved to Gulfport when I was five years old.  I attended Gulfport Schools from the second grade through the  twelfth grade.   I graduated from Gulfport  High School.

I attended MGCCC at the Perkinston Campus and received an Associate of Science degree.   I then attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

I have taught in the Gulfport School District for 33 years.  I taught  6th grade at Handsboro Elementary, 4th and 6th grades at Anniston Avenue Elementary, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th at East Ward Elementary, and 5th at Central Elementary.   This is my 14th year at Central.

I am married to John M. McCay, Jr.,  and we have two sons. Both of my sons are honor graduates of Gulfport High School.   John M. McCay, III,  35, is a United Methodist Minister and a chaplain with the Mississippi Air National Guard.  John is a graduate of  Jefferson Davis Community College and USM Gulf Coast.  He is also a graduate of Memphis Theological Seminary.  Stephen McCay, 23,  is currently enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg from where he received a Bachelor or Arts in Political Science in May 2009.

I look forward to meeting each of you.  Please come by the room and visit.  You may email me at barbara.mccay@gulfportschools.org.
