 Welcome to what I hope will be a fun and enjoyable year for all of us! This year we will be touching on many topics of life science, broadening your knowledge of the scientific world happening around you everyday!  Students will study first hand through activities, laboratory exercises, readings and audio-visual materials.   Materials needed for class: 

  1. Three ringed loose leaf binder or notebook with pockets with sections for:
    1. Notes/Warm-ups/Classwork
    2. Homework
    3. Labs/Activities
    4. Tests/Quizzes/Projects/Essays
  2. Paper
  3. Textbook
  4. Pen or pencil
  5. Agenda Book
  6. Date work and keep in chronological order
 Grading:Trimester Grades are based on the total number of points accumulated during the quarter.  This includes homework, warm-ups (indicated as participation), tests/quizzes/projects, labs/activities, notebook checks and an overall trimester participation grade. Student Responsibilities: Students are expected to:     
  • attend class regularly
  • be ON TIME for class (every tardy will result in the loss of 3 points from your participation grade)
  • complete all assigned work by the deadlines- work that is handed in after I have collected it will be considered late (ie. If you have to go to your locker to get it)
  • if late work is turned in by the end of the cycle you will lose 20%o       if late work is turned in over the shop cycle or during the following cycle you will lose 50%
  •  late work will not be accepted after two cycles of delinquency

  • accept credit only for work that is his/her own****
  • make up missing work following an absence – you will have 5 days to make work up following an absence without receiving late point deductions (this included shop days)
  •  make arrangements to see me if you need extra help
  • date all work and keep in chronological order
****Cheating/plagiarism includes copying someone’s homework, talking during a test/quiz, using cheat sheets, and copying resources without citing.  I realize that labs are often done in groups, but written components must be in your own words and thoughts.  If you are caught cheating in any of the above mentioned situations you will receive a zero for the assignment and an administrator and parent/guardian will be contacted.   Class Rules:
  •  Have respect for each other.  Raise your hand when you wish to speak, speak one at a time.
  • No food, candy or drinks (except water)
  • All trash must go into the garbage can
  • No offensive language allowed
  • You may leave your textbook in the classroom, but realize it is at your own risk
  •  No electronic equipment (cell phones, iPods, walkmans, etc)
  • Please ask to use something BEFORE using it
  • You are allowed to sign out THREE times per cycle.  Sign-out sheets are on the back table.  Please use the class agenda when signing out.  This sign-out includes trips to the bathroom, drinks and to go to your locker.  Please do not interrupt class when signing out. 
  • You are considered late if you are not in the classroom when the bell rings.-          Do not ask me to go to your locker before class starts.  You have three minutes between classes- use this time wisely.
