Recorder Karate

Recorder Karate is the recorder instruction resource I have chosen to use at White Oak. In this program, students work at their own pace and test on a song when ready. When they pass the test, they receive a ribbon (Karate Belt) and move on to the next song.

To practice online, click the link below.  Find the blue box that says, "Students click here to practice."  When you click on that link, type in the user name--karate and the password Mrs. Bartlett gave you in class.  If you don't know the password, see Mrs. Bartlett before or after class to get it.

Recorder Orders

Fourth and fifth grade students will be receiving letters about recorder and order forms to order them soon.  Please return these order forms as soon as possible.  If your child misplaces his or her form, you may download and print one here.  In the interest of conserving paper, I will not be giving the students another copy of the order form.  Fifth grade students will resume recorder instruction in September.  Fourth grade students will begin recorder instruction around the end of November.

Students are not required to purchase a recorder, but it is strongly recommended.  If you choose not to purchase one, I will provide one for use in class, but your child will not be allowed to take it home to practice.  This will limit your child's progress on the recorder.  If you are financially unable to provide a recorder for your child, please let me know.  I have recorders that other parents have purchased that I can make available to your child, but I can't provide them one if I don't realize there is a need.

Changes in Recorder Policies

This year, there will be a few changes to the policies regarding recorder instruction.  If your child forgets his/her recorder, they will not be allowed to call home to have you bring it to them.  This causes too many problems in the front office.  Part of the reason for recorder instruction is to teach your child to be responsible for his/her own materials.  The first time a child forgets his/her recorder, there will be no penalty other than not testing.  Any further incidents will be penalized with increasing severity.  There will be more information in the recorder letter that will come home in the near future.
