In a Nutshell...
Mrs. Kohan’s
8th Grade Reading Class
Welcome to my class! My goal is to ensure that each of my students enjoy the opportunity to succeed in my classroom. I love to read and enjoy the art of storytelling. I hope to foster that same enjoyment in my students. This class will focus on the analysis of literary text (short stories and novels), vocabulary instruction and retention, and spelling patterns.
Supplies
- 1 ½ - 2 inch binder
- at least 5 tabbed dividers
- book cover
- art supplies: crayons, colored pencils, or markers
Agenda
Information on my class agenda will be color-coded.
- Blue: Homework
- Red: Tests
- Green: Daily reminders and information
Students will write down tests and information for the week when they come to class on Mondays. Homework will be added to the agenda on a daily basis.
Homework
Homework will be given every night except for Fridays. Homework will be graded for effort and responsibility. Students will receive full credit if the assignment is complete and in class when it is checked. I will not allow students to “make-up” missing homework assignments unless they are absent. Ten homework assignments are averaged together for one test grade. There is a running list of graded assignments on the Homework Board in my room so that students can stay organized and informed.
Make-Up Work
Students are encouraged to come to school everyday; however, cases arise in which this is not possible. Students are allowed three days to make-up assignments that were missed. Please see the Tipton County Handbook regarding the official system policy. It is the student’s responsibility to check the make-up work folder and my website (www.schoolrack.com/akohan) to gather missing work and turn it in on time. Times for make-up tests must be scheduled by the student.

The rules posted in my room will coincide with the rules laid out in the 8th Grade Code of Conduct.
