Weekly Homework

Every week your child is responsible to complete the following homework.
- Extra Passage--An extra reading passage will be sent home on Mondays. You may assist your child in completing the passage. I would like to see them using their strategies. Each child has brought home a Reading Strategy Hand to help with this. Extra passages are due by Friday.
- Word Work--Your child will bring home a Word Work sheet every Monday. This page reflects the current phonics skill that we are working on in Language Arts Whole Group. At the bottom of the sheet it specifies what your child is responsible for each night. Please check the bottom of the sheet every week in case there is a change in that week's homework. Currently it is as follows:
Mondays: Brainstorm new words to complete the boxes at the top of the page and write 5 sentences using the words.
Tuesdays: Write 5 sentences using the words.
Wednesdays: Extra Reading Passage and study your spelling words.
Thursdays: Extra Reading Passage and study your spelling words.
Fridays: No Homework. - Nightly Reading--Reading with your child daily is crucial to developing their fluency and comprehension skills. Each night your child is expected to read for 15 minutes. There is a Reading Log on the back of the monthly calendar. Please fill this out nightly. Remember to ask questions to your child about what they have read. Who were the main characters? What was this story about?
If you need a list of questions I can provide them for you. Just let me know! - Math Log--Your child will bring home a Math Log every week. It is divided by days. It will cover the skills that we have been working on in math. Occasionally we send home Fact Practice Flash Cards. Please cut these out and drill your child with their math facts.
- Math Minute--A sheet titled Math Minute will be coming home each week. We will go over this sheet during Math Meeting. I will let the students know how to split this up each week.
