Introduction to Lifetime Fitness course at Parkview High School is designed to develop awareness of the health-related components of fitness. The students will create goals, plans, and evaluation strategies for improving or maintaining all health-related components of fitness. The goal of the program is to encourage students to develop an individual optimum level of physical fitness, and acquire knowledge of the health-related components of fitness. Students are encouraged to apply this knowledge to their lifestyles and to make adjustments for better health as a life-long goal towards better health and fitness.
Department Rules
- Students MUST BE ON TIME. If a student is late after the first week of school, they will be sent to the tardy stamp table. After the bell rings, the student will have 5 minutes to dress out for PE. The students will be provided 5 minutes to change back into their school clothes. Shower facilities are available to use, but the students must provide their own towel and will not be given a late pass if they are in the gym past time for bell to ring.
- Students need to use the bathroom before coming to roll call and will not be able to go back to locker room once it is locked. The locker rooms are locked for security reasons and only teachers are allowed in during class time.
- No student is allowed to leave the gym or teacher in charge without written pass or until bell rings at end of class. If the student needs to leave class for any reason, they need to inform the teacher.
- Students are provided lockers in the dressing rooms. Locks are rented through the PE department at a cost of $3.00. If a student looses a lock, regardless of the reason, the student will pay a $5.00 fine.
- Students must be responsible for their own belongings and school equipment. Students need to put all of their personal belongings into the locker provided and lock the lock. It is very important that the student push the lock into place, spin the dial a few times, then pull on the lock in order to make sure that it is locked. The cages should be pulled shut and locked when the last student leaves. The lockers and cages are put into place for security reasons and the students are responsible for locking all belongings up.
Dress out and Participation Requirements
- Lifetime Fitness is a required class for graduation. State Law requires a complete change of clothing for physical education. Clothes worn to school cannot be worn during PE. All PE clothing must follow all Parkview dress code procedures. Shorts, T-shirts and tennis shoes must be worn. All clothing worn by both males and females must adhere to the Parkview dress code as written in the handbook. No tank tops, sports bras, racer back shirts or soffie cheerleading shorts are allowed.
- 2. Students are expected to dress out every day. In the event of an illness or injury, a written parent note will be sufficient for that day. If the student needs to be out for more than a day, a written doctor’s note must be submitted in order for the student to be excused. During the time of an illness or injury, the student will participate in an alternative assignment. Once the student is healed, they are expected to discuss any physical makeup work with their individual teacher. (Please remember 60% of their grade is based on physical activity.)
- Regular attendance is vital for the improvement of individual fitness. If a student misses more than 3 days, they need to meet with their PE teacher to make arrangements to make up the missed days within a 5 day time frame. After 3 excused days, the student will lose 5 points off of their grade for each day missed.
- No food, gum or drink is allowed in the gym. Any student found with any of these items, the items will be taken up and thrown away. If the student brings food or drink again, then they will be given a detention.
- If a student has a cell phone, hat on or a music playing device out in the locker room or gym, the item will be taken up without any warning and given to an administrator for the parent to pick up later that day.
- If any student is injured in class, it is imperative for that student to inform the teacher immediately before leaving class.
- Physical fitness levels will vary from student to student. The lifetime fitness class teaches the student to make a plan for their own goals. Attitude is everything; show up ready to work towards meeting your fitness goals. Always respect yourself, the school property and others. Good sportsmanship is a must in Parkview PE.
