First Aid and CPR
Teacher: Cherrie Geiger – a certified American Red Cross instructor.
Description of class: The First Aid and CPR class is a class designed to teach basic first aid skills and how to deal with emergency situations. Each student will be taught how to do Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic first aid skills. These skills include how to control bleeding, how to apply a splint, what to do in case of heat emergencies, how to recognize cardiac emergencies, signs and symptoms of all body injuries, care for shock, how to use an automated external defibrillator, and many more first aid situations. All students will be given a chance to be certified in adult CPR by an American Red Cross instructor.
Material used in class: American Red Cross books and DVD’s. All information taught is from ARC approved materials. These materials are provided by the school. All manikins used in class are decontaminated by a bleach/water solution. Each student will be provided their own mask to use on the manikins.

Daily written assignments and class work 45%
Tests 35%
Performance 5%
County exam 15%
American Red Cross certification: In order for the students to receive an ARC certificate in adult CPR, they must pass a skills test and a written test with a score of 80 or better.
