Current Referrals and Testing Actions
2nd and 5th Grade - Oct. 12 - 30th - you can refer your child for testing during this time period. Please understand that a referral does not guarantee testing, but guarantees a review by an eligibility committee. When you request a referral, your child’s teacher will also fill out a referral. The scores will be averaged and if your child meets the county standard, he or she will be tested. You will receive a letter if your child did or did not meet the standard. All referral forms must be requested by Oct. 30th. If your child does move to the testing stage, he or she will be evaluated sometime between Nov. 2nd – 20th.
4th Grade - Currently, we are reviewing 4th grade CogAT scores. These scores are added to your child’s ITBS scores from last year. If your child meets the standard for mental ability with the CogAT, 96%ile in one of the areas, then he or she will be automatically referred. We do not have an open referral period for 4th grade because all students were given the CogAT and ITBS.
3rd Grade – ITBS scores will return soon and we will be reviewing them. If your child made the state standard on the ITBS, 90%ile or higher in Total Math, Total Reading, or Composite, then he or she will be referred to an eligibility team. The ITBS scores will be added to your child’s 2nd grade CogAT scores. You will receive consent paperwork before the December holiday break if your child needs further testing.
New Students – If your child is a new student to Coweta County, he or she can be referred Oct. 12th – 30th.
