First Nine Weeks:

-Place Value

-Finding patterns of odd, even, factors, multiples, and prime numbers using concrete models; multiples of 10s, 100s, 1,000s, and 10,000s; read write, compare, and order whole numbers through billions; rounding; measuring time and temperature (covered in science)

 

-Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers; estimate using whole mumbers and fractions; place value.

 

Second Nine Weeks:

-Division of whole numbers; estimate using whole mumbers and fractions; place value.

-Identify critical attributes of shapes and solids including parallel, perpendicular, and congruent parts; transformations; geometric patterns; coordinate grids.

 

Third Nine Weeks:

-Generate equivalent fractions, compare fractions, add and subtract fractions with like denominators including improper fractions; incorporate fractional relationships between units of measure in length, weight, and capacity; use lists, tables, charts, and diagrams to find patterns in fractions

 -Measurement - both customary and metric; convert between two units of measure.

Fourth Nine Weeks:

-Fifth Grade Spiral Review

-Step Up to 6th Grade, beginning alegbra.

Language Arts

Reading-

Each Six Weeks:

Multi-genre reading that incorporates a variety of texts (both print and non-print); student led discussions about reading material; keep a student reading log (RRJ - Reading Response Journal) with a variety of responses including self-reflection

Writing

First Nine Weeks:

Focus: Fiction and Poetry

-Write to express, discover, and develope a sense of self

-Write to entertain, and exhibit an identifiable voice.

Second Nine Weeks:

Focus: Publishing & Non-Fiction

-Choose appropriate form of writing, use literary  devices (imagery, symbolism, simile, and metaphor) correctly, and write to influence. 

Third Nine Weeks:

Focus: Narrative

-Write to inform.

Fourth Nine Weeks:

Focus: Independent Writing Projects

-Write to inform.

-Write to entertain.

Science

First Nine Weeks:

 -Systems, space - Earth, moon, and sun

 -Earth's atmosphere; the Greenhouse Effect; water and carbon cycles; weather -clouds, air pressure, wind, forecasting  

Second Nine Weeks:

-Earth's atmosphere

-The Greenhouse Effect

-Water and carbon cycles

-Weather:clouds, air pressure, wind, forecasting

-Classify matter using volume and density

Third Nine Weeks:

-Conductors and insulators; mixtures

-Energy and motion

-Earth's processes

Fourth Nine Weeks:

-Plants and their adaptations

-Animal growth and reproduction

First Nine Weeks:

-Landforms, map skills, regions; events shaping the world before colonization of the American continent; early settlements in the New World

-Early settlements in the New World; settling the 13 original colonies; early government 

 Second Nine Weeks:

-Colonization of 13 colonies; events leading to Revolutionary War; Articles of Confederation.

 Third Nine Weeks:

-The Revolutionary War; writing the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; the three branches of our government.

-Westward Expansion; Civil War.

 Fourth Nine Weeks:

Twentieth Century - World War I and  II; Civil Rights; Space Race; Cold War.
