OVER-CYCLE HW:  Due March 19th- Have all pre-reading vocabulary words looked up and written down.  This is for our new novel, Night.

Reading Schedule

You need to finish the novel up to page 119 by Wednesday, March 28th  You will have a test on your reading, but you will be able to use your reading journal.  For each chapter that you read you should be completing the following questions:

  • List the character names and who they are
  • Write down at least two thoughtful questions
  • A written summary or a bulleted list of the main events in the chapter.
  • You can also include: connections, reactions, etc.

Remember, you will answer these questions for each chapter, which means you will have a total of 9 reading journals completed.  Each reading journal should have the pages numbers written at the top.

Read pages 13-31, complete a reading journal  for Wednesday, March 21st

Read pages 32-37, complete a reading journal  for Thursday, March 22nd

Read pages 38-54, complete a reading journal  for Friday, March 23rd

Read pages 55-72 & 73-90, complete a reading journal  for Monday, March 26th

Read pages 91-102, complete a reading journal  for Tuesday, March 27th

Read pages 103-119, complete a reading journal  for Wednesday, March 28th

On going class work assignments will be assigned in your groups.  First class work assignment due Friday, March 23rd. 

 

On Wednesday we will have a test review and on Thursday, March 28th you will have a test on the book.

You will also be completing a project that goes along with this book.  Stay focused and make sure to complete your assignments in a timely manner.  Please see me if you are having difficulty with the content and remember that I am after school for the homework club on Monday’s and Wednesday’s.

Updated Assignments

Test Postponed!  the new test date for Night will be Tuesday, April 21st.  The test review will take place Monday, April 20th.  Students should read the assigned Connections readings and complete summaries for their over-cycle homework.  They should also study the characters, topics and places they were given for their upcoming test.  If a student did not turn in their review packet on Thursday, March 29th they should turn it in asap.  Each day it is late will be ten points off.

 

Cycle Fifteen: April 20th-30th and Over-cycle Homework

Test on Night on Monday, April 23rd

This entire cycle you will be working on your holocaust research project.  Don't forget that a works cited page is a requirement. Follow the directions in your project packet.  Any questions please ask me.

Cycle Seventeen: May 14th-June 4th

All projects should have been turned in the first day of the cycle, 10 points off for each day that is late

Due Friday, 5-18-12, Read pages 308-312.  complete chart on 309.  On page 312 questions 1-3 & 1-6.

Due Wednesday:  One page response to question #1 for "Machine Runner"

Due Thursday:  One page response to question #4 for "Machine Runner" & continue studying literary terms.

For Friday: Study all of your literary terms for your upcoming test.

Cycle Nine: Webquest & homework

Webquest, due Friday, January 20th

Reading Schedule:  Of Mice and Men

Due Monday, January 23rdYour webquest if you did not present in class on Friday. Pages 1-16.

Due Tuesday, January 24th:  Pages 17-37, if you did not finish your Chapter One Discussion Questions in class, you should do that for homework.  Quickwrite:  write a summary of Chapter One.

Due Wednesday, January 25th:  Pages 38-50 & Lennie/George Graphic Organizer, if you did not finish your chapter two discussion questions, you should do that for homework. 

Due Thursday, January 26th:  Pages 50-65 and you should have completed the Chapter Three discussion questions, begin working on g.o., etc.

Due Friday, January 27th:    Pages 66-77, continue working on g.o., packet, etc. 

Due Monday, January 30th:  Pages 77-83, Character Graphic Organizer, Chapter Summary Packet and Admit Slip.   

Due Tuesday, January 31st:  Pages 84-98 and Admit Slip. 

Pages 84-98.  THIS IS NOW DUE on Wednesday.  The remainder of the reading schedule has become your over-cycle homework.  You will also be responsible for Chapter 4 & 5 questions if you did not complete them in class.  Get your progress report signed and turn it in on February 9th.  If you need help, or would like to listen to the audio version, please feel free to see me after school for during a study hall for extra help.

Due Wednesday, February 1st:  Pages 99-107, chapter five discussion questions due in class.

On Thursday, February 9th: we will review for your test and you will have a warm-up check.

 On Friday, February 10th: test on Of Mice and Men.

 

Additional assignments may be added and a reading quiz may be given on any of the above days.  This schedule is subject to change.  Please utilize your Of Mice and Men double-column notes for vocabulary words.  Also, keep in mind any information you learned during your web quest while reading.  You should expect to be identifying the themes for this novel, and analyzing the characters.  If you take notes while you read, you may use these on the reading quizzes.  You cannot utilize notes on the chapters from the Internet.

Quickwrite #1:  Anticipation Guide (says it is #2, but really #1)

Quickwrite #2:  Write a summary of Chapter One

Quickwrite #3: What have we learned about our different characters?  List these characters.

Quickwrite #4:  Write a summary of pages 50-65.

Quickwrite #5:  What themes are present in our book so far?

Quickwrite #6:  What is the significance of the events in Crooks room?

Quickwrite #7:  Write a summary of Chapter 5.
