Final Essay for English 101
Last updated October 31st, 2011 at 7:42 a.m..
We are ready to start finishing up your first college English class! Whoo Hoo!!! Good job!
So, here's what you need for the final essay. It is a rhetorical synthesis response essay. You will need an article of 750-1000 words as your core essay, and you will need 2 smaller (300-ish words) articles with differing views regarding the subject of your core essay. For example a core essay could be "Why Chinese Mothers are Superior." You would need to combine Chua's essay with one short essay saying the Chinese method is whimpy and another short essay stating that the Chinese method is child abuse.
Did I hear you ask: "Where on earth will I find that?" I knew you'd ask that! The best place I've found to do this is on the New York Times website. Go to:
http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate
There are hundreds of articles on that website. You get to choose your own topic. I would stick to the first 20 or 30 articles. That way they are time relvant topics. Choose something that is interesting to you.
Your assignment today is to choose the articles. Tomorrow you will hand in a typed page with a summary of all three article. Good luck!
