Student identification for speech and language services
Within the school setting students are usually identified through the use of a speech and language screening instrument and/or teacher referral. After the students are screened and speech and language concerns are found on the screening protocol, the Speech-Language Pathologist contacts the parent for an initial meeting to get signed consent to performed a more in depth formal speech evaluation to rule out and/or identify any speech and language weaknesses. Once the evaluation is completed a second meeting with the parent is arranged to see if the student is eligible for speech and language services. If so, and Individual Educational Plan (IEP) is written by the Speech Language Pathologist that includes goals and objectives to remediate areas of weaknesses.
