Course Syllabus

Students will learn how to use Microsoft Applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, and Access. Students will learn about the Internet, Desktop Publishing, Operating Systems, and Emerging Technologies. Also, keyboarding skills will be reinforced. Students will be able to use these skills in a real world setting whether it is for college or for a career. This is a full year course for technology credit and students may receive college credit for ACC if requirements are met.

Upon completion of this course:
1. Students should be able to proficiently use the Microsoft Office Suite.
2. Apply business skills in a real-world setting.
3. Apply and use Internet search skills in school, on the job, and everyday life.
4. Utilize employment skills for obtaining and excelling in a future work environment.

Requirements for being successful in BCIS:
1. Follow directions while working on assignments and projects.
2. Stay on task while working on the computer and finish assignments on time.
3. Ask for help from the teacher and other classmates when it is needed.
4. Take care of equipment and class materials.
5. Complete work at a high level and meet and/or exceed the criteria for each assignment.
6. Be an inquisitive learner. Do not be afraid to try to use the software we are using in class.

Classroom Rules:
1. You must have permission to speak in class.
2. Show respect to the teacher, students, classroom furniture, and equipment.
3. All students must work for the entire class period until dismissed. Students should be working productively on class work only.
4. 
Students must have both feet in the classroom before the tardy bell rings to be considered on time.
5. Bring your own supplies for class.
6. Food, Gum, Candy, Drinks of any kind, Electronic devices of any kind, Headwear except for religious reasons, and anything that could distract someone from learning are not allowed in class.
These items will be taken up if they are seen or heard and students will serve detention if they choose not to voluntarily hand them over.


Computer Rules:
1. You must have my permission to leave your seat for any reason except if you get sick.
2. Students may only use the programs specified in class. Example: Word, PowerPoint, etc.
3. Students must Log out before leaving each day.
4. Unauthorized use of the Internet is prohibited. 
Getting on My Space, Facebook, You Tube or any site inappropriate for school or home will result in an automatic referral.       

5. Students are not allowed to change the
settings on the computers. This includes screen savers, graphic options, etc.
6. Stay on task so you can finish your work on time.
7. While working on the computer, students may only talk if they are receiving help from another student. Talking not related to class work is unacceptable.
Students must follow these rules or they will lose their computer privileges.

Consequences:
1. Verbal warning
2. Student Behavior Discussion/Loss of Computer Privileges (Alternative assignment given)
3. Call to parent/guardian
4. Detention (15/30 min.)
5. Parent Conference
6. Referral to office
A referral will be given for severe disruptions to the learning environment and repeat offenses.

Classroom Procedures:
1. Students must be in class the first 15 and last 15 minutes of each class period. 
2. The classroom must be in order before anyone leaves. Students will be given two minutes to get their things together.
3. All personal matters outside of the classroom must be taken care of on your own time. 
4. When students enter the classroom, they should sit at their assigned computers, complete the warm-up and be prepared to start class. 
5. Students will be allowed 2 bathroom breaks per week. 

Behavior Documentation Notebook:
Documentation of classroom behavior with appropriate consequences will be kept for the entire year in a notebook. This will be utilized if referrals need to be written and during any parent/teacher conferences.

Cheating Policy:
I have a zero tolerance policy for cheating. Students will receive a 0 for the assignment and a call home will be made.

Grading Policy:
Tests and Projects count 40% and Daily Work counts 60%. All class work will have an impact on the six weeks average each six weeks, which means students should complete all class assignments on time. Students may retake tests and quizzes one time
Grades are posted in class and on Gradespeed. Grades will not be rounded up due to the number of assignments given and the opportunity to complete extra credit.
Students will be given plenty of time to complete projects in and out of class. Tutorials are recommended for students who are falling behind in class.

Work Emailed by Students:
Students are allowed to email their work to themselves so they can finish it at home.

Make Up Work Policy: 
Students are responsible for every assignment missed when they are absent. Make up work cannot be made up during class unless new assignments are completed first. Students are given 1 day for each  absence. If work is turned in 1 day after the allotted time, then students will earn a 50. If work is not turned in after the time given, students will receive a 0.  

Late Work Policy:
Late work is unacceptable for full credit. Students will be given plenty of time to complete assignments in class. Due dates are posted on this website under current six weeks assignments. It is the responsibility of the student to complete assignments on time. 15 pts. will be taken off for each day late for up to 2 days. The 3rd day is a 50. After 3 days, the student will receive a 0.

Supplies Needed for Course: I do not give out supplies.
1. Folder/Binder 
2. Pen Only (Black or Blue)
3. Notebook Paper
4. Agenda for assignments/due dates
The folder/binder and agenda are not required, but recommended for successful completion of course.
