Grade Information and Grading Procedures

Grade Information:

Students are and should be responsible for completing all assignments each six weeks. Grades in BCIS are always earned by the student. Six weeks grades will not be rounded up due to the number of assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects given during each six weeks as well as the opportunity to complete extra credit each six weeks. Assignments are always posted on this website as well as the class board, which means that students will always know what is expected of them. All assignments contribute to the overall six weeks grade in some way. Students will not be given a textbook that they may take home. So, they may need to attend tutorials if they are not able to complete assignments by class deadlines.

The highest possible grade a student can make in BCIS for the six weeks is a 100.

Daily Work: Counts 60% towards the overall average.

Examples: Textbook work, weekly quizzes, notes, warm-ups, handouts, keyboarding lessons, homework, and other class assignments.

Tests and Projects: Count 40% toward the overall average.
(This does not include semester exams.)

Examples:Unit Tests will include both objective and application components. Tests may include Multiple Choice, True/False, Short Answer, Fill in the Blank, and Essay Quesions. Also, various Projects that focus on creativity, real-world applications, higher-level thinking, and the  computer skills learned in class will be given throughout the year. Students may be required to present some projects in front of the class.

Grading Procedures:

Daily Work:
Most computer application based assignments will be graded directly from the student's computer or collected using a special class software management program. Students should always keep any returned assignments, quizzes, or notes. These will aid in studying for tests. Depending on the length and complexity of the assignment or assignments, students are given at least two days to complete assignments without any late penalty. Also, students are expected to complete any assigned homework on time.

Tests and Projects: Students will always be given study guides for tests at least one day before the test day. It is the responsibility of the student to keep up with the study guide given in class. Only one will be given to each student. Students will complete projects in class. However, students may email their work to themselves in order to meet class deadlines. Depending on the project, students will be given at least 4 days to complete the project without any late penalty.

Important: We will be using Quia.com for quizzes and tests that are made up of objective based questions as well as essay questions. Students will know their grades as soon as they are finished taking their quizzes or tests except for essay questions.

Extra Credit: Extra credit may be earned each six weeks. The requirements for extra credit as well as additional information that is required for extra credit may be found under the Extra Credit link of this site.

Grade Posting: Grades will be posted on a regular basis. Students will be reponsible for keeping up with their averages and any missing assignments.
Parents and Guardians will be able to access student grades and attendance through the new AISD Internet gradebook program.
