Students will learn how to use Microsoft Applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, and Access. Students will learn about the Internet, Desktop Publishing, Operating Systems, and Emerging Technologies. Also, keyboarding skills will be reinforced. Students will be able to use these skills in a real world setting whether it is for college or for a career.
Classroom Rules:
1. Show respect to the teacher, students, classroom furniture, and equipment.
2. Students must work from bell to bell on class work.
3. Students must be physically in the classroom before the tardy bell rings to be on time.
4. Students must come to class prepared to work.
5. Students may not have any candy, food, drinks including water, electronic devices, or headwear in the computer lab.
6. Students must stay in their seats until the bell rings.
Computer Rules:
1. Students may only use email in my class for class work and must have permission from me to do so. Flash drives are not to be used in my classroom except under special circumstances.
2. Students may not change any computer settings including backgrounds, screen savers, screen size, and monitor settings. 3. Students must have permission to use the Internet.
4. Students must stay quiet and work on class assignments.
5. Students must log off each day before leaving class.
6. Students may not download any programs on the computer.
7. Students must use the computers in a manner that is appropriate for school.
Inappropriate use of the computer will not be tolerated and a consequence that may include a referral will be administered.
Consequences:
1. Warning
2. Call/Email/Letter to parent or guardian
3. Detention: 30 minutes (Must be served within 48 hrs.)
4. Detention: 45 minutes (Must be served within 48 hrs.)
5. Referral to office: A referral will be given for severe disruptions to the learning environment and repeat offenses.
Classroom Policies:
1. Students will be given one sheet of hall passes for each semester. These passes may be used for the bathroom or going to your locker. It is the responsibility of the student to keep these in his or her notebook.
2. All assignments must be completed in class or during tutorials. No outside computer work is allowed except under special circumstances.
3. Students must be in class so they can learn. No student will be allowed to leave class to go see the counselor, principal, another teacher, or any other member of the Bowie staff without a pass from the person they are wanting to see. The only exception is going to the nurse for medication or sickness.
4. Cheating is not allowed. Students will receive a 0 for the assignment and a call home will be made. Also, the appropriate administrator will be notified.
5. Students must not log off until the bell rings. Students are expected to work from bell to bell.
6. If students are late to class, they must report immediately to the tardy table. Excuses for being tardy are unacceptable without a pass from a Bowie staff member.
7. Grading Policy:
Tests/Projects count 50%, Quizzes count 25%, and Daily Work counts 25%. All class work will have an impact on the six weeks average each six weeks, which means students should complete all class assignments on time. Students may retake tests and quizzes one time for up to a 70. Grades are posted in class and on Gradespeed. All grades in this class are earned. Tutorials are recommended for students that are behind on class work. No incompletes will be given for six weeks grades.
8. Make Up Work Policy:
In BCIS, as with all Bowie CTE courses, due dates for makeup work resulting from EXCUSED absence(s) will be extended for three school days from the date of student's return to school, after which time the late work policy will apply. For UNEXCUSED absences, the late work procedure will apply immediately.
9. LATE WORK POLICY:
In BCIS, as with all Bowie CTE courses late work not completed and turned in by the assigned due date will be accepted for partial credit for three school days. Maximum scores for late work will be 85 after one day, 70 after two days and 50 after three days. No late work will be accepted beyond this time frame.
10. Tutorial Policy:
Tutorials are offered: M-F (8:10-8:40), T and Th (4:15-4:45)
11. Students may not leave class the first 15 minutes or last 15 minutes unless they have a note from a Bowie staff member via school policy.
Supplies Needed for Class:
Please have these by next Monday, August 31, 2009.
2 inch binder for this class only, 1 set of dividers, blue/black pens, mechanical pencils, and notebook paper. A school assignment agenda would be helpful, but it is not required. Notebook quizzes will be given on a regular basis.
