Thursday Notes

Please be looking for these to come home every Thursday.  Thursday Notes will contain information about your child's behavior throughout the week, and also assignments they may be missing or may not have turned in on time.  Please sign your child's Thursday Note on Thursday so they can return it on Friday.  Thank you!

The Writing Process

Here is a picture video of our pencil holder sculptures we made as we learned about the writing process and how a writer is like a sculptor.

In writing, authors go through a process to get from an idea to a final product.  Authors usually begin by brainstorming many different ideas, then they create a rough draft of an idea they want to stick with.  After drafting, an author will revise their work, adding little details that make their writing special.  After revising, an author will edit their work, looking to polish all the details (such as spelling, grammar, and punctuation).  Finally, the author will title and publish their work for all to see.

We followed this process by creating pencil holders out of play-doh.  We even did a gallery walk at the end of each class so stuents could view and compliment each others work.  It was a fun writing lesson, and we didn't even need a pencil and paper!!!  Laughing

Fall Party

This Friday, October 21, we will have our Fall Classroom Party.  Your student should have recieved a letter from our homeroom parent on Friday, October 14, explaining the items still needed for our party.  We are also looking for parent volunteers to help with games and activities.  If you can help we would greatly appreciate it.  Our party will begin around 2:55 and end at 3:25.  Thank you in advance for making this a fun day for our classroom!  Smile

Parent Teacher Conferences

Just a friendly reminder that Parent/Teacher Conferences are going on this week Tuesday-Thursday.  We are looking forward to meeting with you and discussing your students' progress so far this year.  If you cannot remember your conference time please contact your child's homeroom teacher or the school office at 742-4242.

**Also, there will be NO SCHOOL Friday, October 28th due to Parent/Teacher Conferences!**

WELCOME 2012!!!

Welcome back parents and students!  I hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful Winter Break.  It was great to see all the smiling faces back in classrooms today, and hear all the fun stories of experiences we had over the break.  Please check the blog for daily assignments/work, upcoming tests and projects, and the calendar for upcoming events, such as D.A.R.E. Graduation.  I am looking forward to an awesome 2nd semester with you and your child!  Laughing

McTeacher's Night

We will have a McTeacher's Night on Tuesday, March 6th from 4-8 p.m. at the Willard McDonald's to support our 5th grade Field Trip to Dixie Stampede.  Funds raised will go toward lowering the cost of tickets to ALL 5th grade students who attend the Field Trip, so please plan on participating in McTeacher's Night by purchasing and enjoying your favorite McDonald's meal.  You can eat in and visit with your student's teachers, or pick up through the Drive-Thru; either way, you can help our cause!  Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies will also be on sale for purchase and those monies will benefit our students as well.  Thank you, parents, for your continuing support of your child and our school!

Welcome Back from Spring Break!

Welcome Back!  We are in our 4th Quarter of the school year and it is going to fly by.  MAP Testing time is quickly approaching, so please be on the look out for those dates/times.  Also, please make sure that your child has all the necessary school supplies they need to complete the school year.  We have several projects coming up in ALL subect areas that will require students to have glue/glue sticks, scissors, colored pencils/crayons/markers, etc...  We are finding that many students are running low on these items.  Thank you for all you do to help support your child as a student, and also the teachers and our school!  I am very much looking forward to a fun 4th Quarter!  Sealed
