5th grade literature

The fifth grade students researched the Iroquois Indians and the time period of the French ad Indian War.  This gave us background information for the book "The Indian in the Cupboard" by Lynn Reid Banks.  We will read and discuss the life of the author.

The students will also read and compare other stories, where a toy comes to life.

 

6th grade literature

The students researched information on the Great Depression and on the state of Mississippi.  This research provided background for the book, "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" by Mildred Taylor.

We will also read about the author Mildred Taylor.

The students will listen to "The Gold Cadillac" also by Mildred Taylor.  The students will discuss the short story.  The students will write a reaction to the story.

7th grade literature

The 7th grade students researched author Elizabeth George Speare- her life and views on writing!  The students also looked up information on Wethersfield, Connecticut and the year 1687.  This data provided good background knowledge for "The Witch Of Blackbird Pond" by Speare.

 

The students will choose another book to read by author Elizabeth George Speare.  The students are to read and prepare a book share to present to the class.  This assignment is due February 23rd.

8th grade literature

 "Tuesdays With Morrie" by Mitch Album

The students will share information they have researched on ALS.  (The disease Morrie suffers with in the book.)  We will look at and discuss a variety of quotes from Mitch Album.  The students will choose three.  (One to use as part of a greeting card, one to write a personal reflection, and one to use as a poster to be hung in the jr. high hallway.)
