The above cycle will begin with an introduction to Connecticut's court system. When students return on Thursday, May 8th, they will discuss Connecticut's courts and learn about civil and criminal court as well as plaintiffs, defendants, and court personnel.
New London Superior Court - Field Trip
On Monday, May 12 my class will observe Judge Handy's courtroom. We will leave Grasso at 9:00 a.m. and be in the courtroom by 9:30 a.m. for and overview and Q&A session with the judge. We will observe the court from 10:00 to 11:30, at which time we will depart for lunch and return to Grasso by 1:00 p.m.
Students are required to make up any missed assignments from academic classes on that day.
Jury Outreach Program
On Tuesday, May 20th a team from Connecticut's Jury Outreach Program will meet with all Civics classes throughout the day. Students will learn the roles and responsibilities of a juror as well as requirements to serve and legally acceptable reasons for nonservice. This is the third year the program has come to Grasso.
Mr. Champlin - Student Teacher
This is the last cycle Mr. Champlin will be with us. He will complete his unit on state and local government. His last day at Grasso is Friday, May 16th. GOOD LUCK, Mr. Champlin. You've done a terrific job and we will all miss you!!
