Grade K - Ms. Mae Canestri

The kinders shared with me this morning their favorite part of the Duffield's trip.  The y enjoyed climbingj on the hay stacks and  running  through the corn maze.  Thank you to the parents for their participation on this fun trip!!!

This week we are beginningj to learn our second vowel sound.  The sound we are learning is the short "a" sound as in apple.  We will begin to blend sounds in preparation for  reading.  We will blend Oc, Ac, Ca  and Co words.  We will make an entry in our journals about Christopher Columbus. 

In math we will learn what a Venn diagram is. We will use the Venn diagram to share our favorite kinds of pop corn.  We will share pop corn as an additional treat to this learning activity.   We took out our counting boxes today.  Ask your children about this counting lesson.  They had alot of fun!!!  

We will have a visitor from the fire department this week, to discusss fire safety.  WE will get together with the first grade for this  discussion. We will make a fire engine out of shapes this week. 

We are learning about the Rosary and praying a decade of the Rosary on select days.   We learned about St. Rose of Lima in preperation for the saints mass on Oct.  30th.  Each child will dress like a saint on that day.  A letter about the Saints Mass was sent home today.    We are discussing that God created all the animals.  We will have a lesson  and art activity  on zoo animals.
