Homework Policy
Last updated August 11th, 2011 at 2:22 p.m.*Please read and discuss the following homework policy and procedures with your child.
**Why do I assign homework?
I believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience at school. I give homework because it is useful in reinforcing what has been taught in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.
**When will homework be assigned?
Homework will be assigned Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. Wednesday night homework will only be assigned if we have a short week. Assignments should take students no longer than 30 minutes to one hour to complete each night. Students may earn “NO HOMEWORK” passes for good behavior as well. Also, students will be given some time in class to work on homework.
**What are the student’s homework responsibilities?
I expect students to do their very BEST job on their homework. This means that all homework is to be completed NEATLY and LEGIBLY. I expect students to work on their own and only ask for help after they have given it their best effort. Parents may check homework assignments for accuracy, but AT NO TIME should a parent write or complete any portion of the student’s homework. All homework assignments are expected to be turned in ON TIME each morning upon arrival to school. I strongly suggest that you encourage your child to use this time wisely.
**What are the teacher’s responsibilities regarding homework?
EVERDAY, I will check homework. Periodically, I will record homework grades in my gradebook. Students will receive a “100” for homework that is completed and turned in on time or a “0” for all assignments that are incomplete or late. Any student who chooses not to complete their homework or turns it in late will lose conduct points and have to make up the incomplete work during recess.
**What are the parent’s responsibilities regarding homework?
Parents are the KEY to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I ask that you make homework a TOP PRIORITY IN YOUR HOME, provide the necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, provide praise and support, do not let your child avoid homework, and contact me if a problem arises. It is also a good idea to review your child’s homework each night by comparing the assignment given on the homework sheet to that which your child has done.
