5th grade AR rules
When students finish an assignment they are required to get out their AR book and read. If they are finished with a classroom assignment and the computers are not in use for classroom instruction then they may take an AR test. Students can not take tests during classtime. Example if they are suppose to be working on an English assignment or Math assignment they can not put the subject off and take a test that they finished at home the night before. If a student finishes reading a book at home, I have instructed them to log on to a computer first thing in the morning when they arrive to take the test. I arrive at school at 7:oo so that is not a problem. If I have stepped out of the room for any reason there is a duty teacher in the hall that will put the password in. Also if a student is finished with a book and needs to take a test they have been told they need to take it before PE. A test generally takes less than 5 minutes, so they are not in the entire PE time. In my class, after PE is designated READING time. Students must read for at least 15 minutes. After that time, if they need to take a test they may. But, for the 15 minutes all students must read. They are given 10:50-11:15 AR reading time. In the afternoon 2:30 is the designated reading time. Again the same rule applies. If they finish their work early they are to read or can take a test if the computers are free. If they have not had a chance all day to take a test, then they have an oppurtunity to take it right before recess. Again tests generally take less than 5 minutes and then they are free to go to recess 1:30-1:48. At 2:30 everyone reads with no interruptions. After 15 min. of reading, if anyone needs to take a test they may.
