Course Overview
By the end of grade eight, students will understand various numerical representations, including square roots, exponents and scientific notation; use and apply geometric properties of plane figures, including congruence and the Pythagorean theorem; use symbolic algebra to represent situations and solve problems, especially those that involve linear relationships; solve linear equations, systems of linear equations and inequalities; use equations, tables and graphs to analyze and interpret linear functions; use and understand set theory and simple counting techniques; determine the theoretical probability of simple events; and make inferences from statistical data, particularly data that can be modeled by linear functions.
Class Requirements
Eighth grade math is a strenous journey and will require all students to study daily. Notes, including 'How Did She Do That," are components of my class that must be brought home and studied regularly. Written homework (that is to be turned in) is assigned two to three days per week. Tests and quizzes occur every Friday on an alternating basis. Unit projects are assigned to assess students' understanding of each unit and must be turned in on the given due date! Late work or late projects (not due to excused absences) will not be accepted.
Current Topics/Homework
We have begun Unit 3 where students will be learning how to solve linear equations and inequalities. The unit will be taught for about 5 weeks.
Homework:
Monday (31st) No Homework
Tuesday (Nov. 1st)- Front side of Compound Inequalities Worksheet
Wednesday (2nd) - Back side of Compound Inequalities Worksheet
Thursday (3rd): Study for quiz on Friday over Solving and Graphing Inequalities
Friday (4th): Quiz, No homework
