RELIGION

Religion Journal:  Start collecting pictures, prayer cards, and/or favorite inspirational sayings to design your daily journal notebook.

                           :  journal is to be decorated & laminated by Wed., Sept. 16

                           :  follow format that was shown in school

                                        -you are responsible to write down the scripture reading and saint of the day first; read and reflect on the reading next; write your thoughts last

                                        -reflections are not summaries, but your thoughts on how the reading is speaking to you

                          :  entries are assessed two ways-when taking a chapter test, you use your journal to write the scripture reading and/or saint for a specific day; from time to time I will collect and make sure you are up-to-date with your entries

Religion is not just a subject; it is a way of life!  Innocent

Notebooks:  there are to kept neat and free of graffiti/scribble

Lessons:  discussed by chapter in one of two Religion books

                            -Living Our Faith:  Jesus, Word Made Flesh

                            -Living Our Faith:  Sacraments, Signs of Our Faith    

              :  with each new chapter-first night of homework read entire chapter, second night define all bold faced words; additional notes given in class; quizzes, tests, and reflective essays are used as assessments; there are times when additional homework (usually long-term) assignments are given 

Class Mass:  7th & 8th grade will go to Mass on Friday, Spetember 11 & October 9

First Friday Mass:  Our first responsbility is October 2   

Saint Report/Stole:  1-2 typed page report and cloth stole decorated with saints name and images that represent their virtues/accomplishment

VOCABULARY

Units are assigned as independent work and on a two-week schedule

         Independent work:  includes 'Completing the Sentence', 'Synonym', 'Antonym', 'Choosing the Right Word', and 'Vocabulary in Context'

        Assessments:  Spelling quiz, Index cards, Unit work, Test 

First Week 

                  Monday-introduce words in class

                  Tuesday-independent work

                  Wednesday-quiz on spelling of the words

                  Thursday-independent work

                  Friday-index cards due; used to play a review game

Second Week 

                  Monday/Tuesday-independent work; work with partner for review using index cards if all work complete

                  Wednesday-all unit exercises are corrected in class

                  Thursday-use index cards, notebooks to review for test

                  Friday-test on spelling, identifying parts of speech, matching word with definitions, synonym/antonym phrases, vocabulary used in context of sentences

***Vocab words incorporated into grammar/creative writing lessons

 

 

                    

GRAMMAR & WRITING

New this year:  "Grammar in Writing"

SCIENCE

Notebooks:  needed everyday; kept neat, free from scribble and/or graffiti, and with a cover!

Lab Books:  kept neat and intact all year; some of you may be running out of space; please be aware of this and order one on time-do not miss out on a lab because you are not prepared!
