This week in room 8! • Back To All Pages »

We are almost first graders!

So far we have covered every letter in the alphabet!    Through the end of the year we will work on vowels, writing sentences on our own with very little to no help.  We talk about digraphs (sh, ch, th and wh). In math we will be hard at work with addition and subtraction.

It is very important for your child to be reading his/her word wall words to you each night.  So far they have been:  a, the, at, can, cat, dog, mom, dad, I, am, like, is, big, in, it, but, boy, girl, yes, no, play, do, have, look, little, my, me, not, see, we, one, two, three, what, where, yellow, you, red, blue, not, he, here, said, do, that.  If they have been misplaced please put them on some 3X5 index cards to practice.  If they "memorize" the order, shuffle them up!  It would be a great idea for them to write sentences using word wall words.  One a night is sufficient.   Please keep in mind that they will be expected to know ALL of these kindergarten words upon entering first grade.
