Ike Girls 2008 Season Review

2008 Season Review

The 2008 season was another successful one for Eisenhower Girls Soccer. Finishing 9-6-1 overall and 9-4 in league, the Lady Cadets finished in 5th place and earned the right to host a 1st Round District game. Six players were named as All-Conference players (Katy Allen, Bianca Flores, Baylee Jones, Ashlyn Keller, Jennifer McKenna, and Brianna Mares). The Cadets graduate four seniors (Robin Klein, Bianca Flores, Anna Johnson, and Eva Lamas), return 16, and will have 10 regular starters back for 2009. The past two seasons (’07-’08) the Lady Cadets have a combined league record of 17-8 and made post-season play both times.

Dynamic Duo Make Records

Bianca Flores and Katy Allen both led all Ike goal scorers in 2008, both with 12. Bianca finished the season with 5 assists, for 29 points. Katy tallied 3 assists for 27 points. Both girls registered a hat-trick on the road this year. Katy was first, on the road in Walla Walla. Then the next game it was Bianca’s turn, in Wenatchee. For their strong offensive output in ’08 both girls find themselves near the top in the Eisenhower Girls Soccer Record Book in career goals, goals scored in a season, career points, and points in a season.

Double-Digit Déjà Vu

Katy Allen had her second double-digit goal scoring season. In 2007 she tallied 13 goals in 17 games and in 2008 she scored 12 in 16 games. Both seasons also saw her register a hat-trick. Outstanding!

Offensive Threats

Ike’s attack was well rounded and aided by a number of players in 2008. Midfielders Ashlyn Keller and Brianna Mares found their goal scoring touch and each chipped in 5 goals and 4 assists. Midfielder Jennifer McKenna’s number was 4 this season – as in 4 goals and 4 assists. Talk about well rounded! Alexis Howard continued her team play from last year (3 assists) and contributed 4 assists this season. Varsity newcomer Liz Figueroa wasn’t afraid to get into the act either. She drilled in 2 goals while assisting on 4.

Defense

Led by All-Conference 2nd Team Defender and Baylee Jones, and ’08 Coach’s Award winner Courtney Abrams the Lady Cadets clamped down on defense in 2008. Ike allowed 20 goals overall, averaging 1.2 game. This was an area of great improvement from the ’07 season in which Ike allowed 32 for a 1.78 average. Chantal Avila logged the most minutes in goal (490) and also had the best goals against average (G.A.A.) of 0.65. Chantal and Darci Cline each started 6 games in goal while Darci recorded a team leading 36 saves. Chantal, Darci, and Sophia Pedemonte locked down the net and combined for 6 shutouts on the season.

Graduation

The Lady Cadets lone Class of ’08 Alumni Jennifer Johnson just completed her freshman year of soccer at St. Martin’s University (NCAA Div. II) in Lacey, WA. “JJ” played four years of varsity at Ike under three coaches. Her senior year she served as a captain and earned league recognition as an All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Allen leads Eisenhower's All-League Selections

Eisenhower Junior forward Katy Allen was again selected at a 1st Team Big 9 forward at the league meeting on November 5th. She was an unanimous 1st Team selection at forward in 2007. She tallied 12 goals and 3 assists on the season to help the Cadets to a 5th place league finish.

Bianca Flores was a 2nd Team selection in '07 as midfielder and was again a 2nd Team selection this year, now as a forward. Bianca led the Cadets with 29 total points (12 goals, 5 assists) in her outstanding senior season. Bianca also served as one of the team's captains.

Baylee Jones, a junior, was also chosen as a 2nd Team selection in defense. Baylee was Ike's lone All-League representative in '06 garnering an Honorable Mention as a freshman. After missing most of the '07 season to a torn ACL, Baylee returned to Ike's lineup as a central defender and partnered with Courtney Abrams to solidify the back line. Baylee was also one of the team's captains.

Ike junior Ashlyn Keller was recognized as a 2nd Team midfielder. Her strong play, balanced contribution of 5 goals and 4 assists, and leadership as a captain helped the Cadets all season long. Ashlyn served as a captain as well.

Jennifer McKenna, a sophomore, recieved recognition as a 2nd Team midfielder as well. Her offensive prowess, defensive tenacity and all-around skill were a big asset to the Cadets this season. Her 4 goals and 4 assists exemplify her balanced, yet strong play.

Receiving Honorable Mention was sophomore outside midfielder Brianna Mares. Her quick, skilled attack, and strong work rate earned her a starting spot on the left side of midfield. Her 5 goals and 4 assists were impressive as first year varsity player and demonstrate her versatility as an attacking player.
