Dr. Don Wallace

Class Summary

Science – Group C

Course Syllabus

(this is the syllabus used in Dr. Wallace’s Group C Class)

This science class will be a high school level physics science class.  Classroom instruction has been designed around the basic principles covering physics.   Grades are obtained by collecting points during the grading period.  The following definitions will assist in understanding how points are obtained.

 Definitions and Point Values:

1-                 Vocabulary –these are composed of lists of important terms that relate to the unit being studied that must be learned and understood for successful career selection and obtainment.  The vocabulary will covered using strategies including word walls, matching, and journal entries.

2-                 Submissions – Each submission will cover a specific unit.  Students will work both independently and in pairs on submissions.  Each submission has a point value depending on the amount of work involved, questions asked, or information required.

3-                 Journals - Each day there will be a short activity to start class.  The students will make a journal entry and the journal will be graded daily or weekly depending on the degree of work.

4-                 Videos – Students will view videos and prepare notes.  The notes will be maintained in their journals and graded.

5-                 Experiments/labs – Appropriate experiments, demonstrations, and labs will be conducted during the class.  Students will given a rubric that will be used for grading.  Students will not only participate in these activities but they may also do class demonstrations and observe such demonstrations.

Science in Action - 25 Days to Science Fair Day

The students of Group C will be challenging themselves to create the best science fairs projects in MSSC.  They are going to have some stiff competition.  The ideas have been floating around and a few students have made some decisions.  One student wants to experiment with batteries.  Another wants to explore how solar cells create the maximum amount of electricity.
