Roles & Responsibilities:
As a graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Technology Machining Specialization, you can look toward numerous outstanding career opportunities with responsibilities that include machining precision components for production, creating prototypes and operating conventional or computer-controlled machines. Graduates of the Machining program hold titles such as machinist, machine tool operator, precision machinist, CNC machinist or CNC operator.
 
Employers want technicians who can:
  • Communicate effectively;
  • Continue to build skills and knowledge;
  • Efficiently operate precision machine tools;
  • Read and understand manufacturing drawings;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of various types of engineering materials; and
  • Learn new skills and concepts on their own.
Industry Standards:

MET students are exposed to established professionals through the program's industry partners and advisory committees. Professional organizations such as the Society of Manufacturing Engineer's, the Precision Machined Products Association and the National Tooling and Machining Association offer additional networking opportunities.

0-1 inch standard micrometer, with vernier scale
(carbide faces are preferrable)
1-2 inch standard micrometer, with vernier scale
(carbide faces are preferrable)
6 inch digital or dial caliper
6 inch machinist scale test indicator (.0005" resolution) with mounting attachments (Stem and Clamp)* dial indicator, 1 inch range, with mounting hardware for attachment to a magnetic base
magnetic base (best purchased with a fine adjustment screw) basic protractor combination square set*

edge finder pocket scribe dead blow hammer
allen wrench sets, metric and SAE 10 inch adjustable wrench* combination wrench set, 3/8" to 1"*
