Grade 9 - Current Assignments Back to All Pages »

Paraphrasing using the RAP strategy.

The RAP strategy is used to paraphrase written materials into your own words.

Steps of the strategy are:

1.  Read one paragraph.

2.  Ask yourself "What are the main ideas and details?"

3.  Put the main ideas and details into your own words.

Students are to test their paraphrases for 7 requirements:

1. Completeness

2. Accuracy

3. From the paragraph?

4. Not Repetitive

5. Meaningful

6. Useful

7. Not too general

8. Used own words

Students are reading one page informational articles and creating paraphrases of each paragraph by writing one Main Idea sentence and two detail sentences.

The first article is paraphrased as a group, the second is done independently with support, and the third is an assessment.

If you were absent from class and missed any of the three assignments above, you need to see your teacher for the article, complete the work at home, and turn it in for grading.
