Sixth Grade Syllubus – Understanding the connection between our fathers and mothers in  faith from the Old Testament to the fulfillment of the promise of  Jesus in the New Testament. 

  • Daily journal writing reflecting on a Scripture quote
  • Classroom discussion on material in text book
  • Writing and drawing in their Religion notebook
  • Homework several nights a week
  • Tests on each unit   

Remember to talk to Jesus daily and Mass on Sunday.

Social Studies - 6th Grade

Sixth Grade Syllubus:  We follow NJ Core Curruculum Standards and Diocesean Standards.

Journey Across Time, (Glencoe) new text book.

Theme ancient civilizations including Greece, Roman Empire, Asian and                         African Empires.

  • Explore the rise of Western European nations.
  • Concepts of economics and societal groupings are explored and discussed
  • Map skills and various graphic organizers are utilized to enhance comprehension
  • Current events used from time to time
  • Homework possibly several nights a week
  • Tests on each unit
  • Use of on-line text book web site

Remember to log onto www.nationalgeographic.com and www.freerice.com to play the game and puzzles to prepare for the National Gepgraphic Bee in the fall.  Remember to attend Mass on Sunday and praise God.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary Syllubus:  Sadlier-Oxford text book.

  • Each Unit takes two weeks to complete starting on a Monday
  • Every night homework will be assigned to keep students on track
  • All work completed in a vocabulary notebook
  • All work checked on the Tuesday for completion including index cards
  • Test on Wednesday for misspelled words & Thursday for the rest of the unit

 

Grammar/Writing

 

Sixth Grade Grammar/Writing Syllubus:     Writing instructed on four types of essays throughout year

  • Grammar instruction using a new text book, and other resource materials
  • Work will be in the English notebook
  • Tests on certain topics
