Students will complete last week’s project.

Those finished will begin: tissue paper collage.

 Motivation:

  • Students see and touch a variety of colored tissue paper.
  • Students discuss the transparent quality of tissue paper.
  • Teacher demonstrates the technique of applying tissue paper to oak tag background using a solution of glue and water.
  • Teacher demonstrates how to blend colors by overlapping pieces of tissue paper to achieve a variety of tones.
  • Students draw out shoe design and begin collage process.

Students will complete last week’s project.

Those finished will begin: “Illuminated Manuscript Letters”.

 

TTW show examples of illuminated manuscripts from the Middle Ages and also motifs from Art Deco books, and distribute handouts of examples.

 

TSW learn about the mode of design called stylization, which means to simplify things to their most basic components.

Tuesday

 

 

 

 

 

 

TSW continue applying tissue paper in collage technique, taking into account the principles of design.

  • TSW:  brainstorm on images and symbols that represent who they are. Make sketches on newsprint.
  • Decide on using first or last name for Illumination lettering assignment.
  • Design first letter of name incorporating the images and symbols. Plan remaining letters to blend with the first initial.

 

Wednesday

 

 

 

 

  • Students view and analyze completed work.
  • Students visit museums via the internet to view original "mixed media" collage.

 

  • Transfer initial to illustration board - transfer symbols images to create a pleasing arrangement (remembering principles of design).
  • Draw in remaining letters of name. Embellish negative space if desired - adding border etc.
  • Fill in with markers or colored pencils.
