Ocean Unit
Last updated April 27th, 2012 at 1:23 p.m.Our Ocean Unit is a fun way to end the school year!
These are the main concepts the children are learning in this unit:
God created our oceans and sea life! God made the oceans on the third day, and the fish on the fifth day. (Genesis 1)
Oceans make up 3/4 of Earth. There are 4 oceans: Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Artic. The ocean is a salt-water habitat. The water becomes salty from rocks wearing away over time.
Fish have scales covering their bodies. They breathe through their gills and take in air (oxygen) from the water.
Tide pools are found near the shore. The water moves in and out. Plants called algae live on the rocks. Small animals live in tide pools. Starfish and crabs are some animals found in tide pools.
Coral reefs are found in the warm parts of the ocean. The coral reef is home to many ocean animals.
We are doing lots of special projects for this unit. We have art projects as well as some edible treats planned!
