Algebra 2 Syllabus
Course: Algebra 2/Trigonometry
Instructor: Ann Lennon
Algebra 2/Trigonometry introduces more advanced topics in mathematics, building on the solid mathematical foundation established in Algebra 1 and Geometry. Students will learn to apply algebra, logic, and trigonometry concepts to solve real-world problems. They will be expected to communicate mathematical ideas both verbally and in writing, and will explore more sophisticated applications for their graphing calculators. The New York State Regents Examination in Algebra 2/Trigonometry will be administered in June 2010. Students will be advised of the exam date as soon as it is released by the New York State Education Department.
Topics covered will include:
Relations and Functions
Transformation Geometry and Functions
Trigonometric Functions
Trigonometric Graphs
Exponential Functions
Logarithmic Functions
Trigonometric Applications
Trigonometric Equations and Identities
The Complex Numbers
Statistics
Probability, Sequences, and the Binomial Theorem
The following supplies are required:
TI 83 or 84 Graphing Calculator
Graph Paper Notebook (available at Staples)
Binder or folder for handouts, assignments, and projects
No. 2 pencils – All work is to be done in pencil
Grading policy:
55% Tests and Projects
25% Homework and Quizzes
20% Classwork and Notebook
Homework:
Homework will be assigned every night. It should be done in the graph paper notebook, and will be checked for completeness/effort. Late homework is unacceptable except in the case of an excused absence, and absent students are required to make up any classwork and homework they have missed.
