6th Grade MTF

1.  Beat - pulse of music.  Does not change.

2.  Rhythm - a combination of long and short sounds and silence played over a steady beat.

3.  Percussion - name for a family of instruments.  Hit or shake to play.

 

1.   tempo - the speed of the music

2.  Adagio - very slow

3.  Andante - slow, walking speed

4.  Moderato - medium speed

5.  Allegro - quick, running speed.

6.  Presto - REALLY fast tempo.  

 

  1. Generation – a group of individuals born and living at the same time.

 

  1. Contemporary music – currently most popular in a particular time and place.

 

  1. Repeat sign – play the section of music a second time.

 

 

  1. quarter note – one beat of sound.  “pie”

Elvis Presley notes

-         Elvis was very popular during the 1950s.

-         Elvis performed a style of music called rockabilly, which is a mix of country and blues.

-         In addition to hits such as “Jailhouse Rock” and “Blue Suede Shoes,” Elvis performed in many movies.

Chord notes:

-         I Chord – first third and fifth note of the scale.

-         IV Chord – fourth, sixth, and eighth note of scale

-         V Chord – fifth, seventh, and ninth (second) note of scale.

-         Half step – the distance from one note to the next closest note higher or lower.

 

-         Whole step – two half steps

 

-         Octave – eight notes.  Ex.  Octave higher than low C would be high C.

 

-         Chromatic scale – scale made up of half steps.  Ends on a note an octave higher than the one started on.

 

-         Major scale – Scale made up of whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half.

2.      time signature – tells you about the beat.  Top number tells you how many beats are in a measure.

3.      Chest voice – your lower singing voice.

4.      Head voice – your higher and airier singing voice.

1.      Barline – The vertical line placed on the staff to divide the music into measures

2.      measure – the space between two barlines

3.      double barlines – two barlines put together; show the end of a song

4.      accent – play a note louder than the notes around it.

5th Grade Science

Biome project instructions: 

 

1. Select one of the following biomes:  grassland, desert, tropical rainforest, tundra, taiga, deciduous forest.

2.  Create a visual component (poster, diorama, diagram, etc) to present your biome.  Visual must be in color.  Items must be labeled.  Visual must be large enough to see; not a small drawing on an 8 ½ by 11 piece of paper.  Visual component is worth up to 20 points of extra credit.

3.  Write a report on your biome.  Report should be about a page, and neatly written or typed.  There should be no spelling or grammatical errors.  Describe climate, animals, plant life, geographic location, and other interesting facts.  You may use resources other than you text book.  Report is worth up to 20 extra credit points. 

4.  All parts of project are due Monday, December 1, 2008.
