Old Events and New Events
I bring to you sad news about our Christmas Concert firldtrip. I am cancelling it for this year. In the process of making all necessary arrangements to perform at the Mitchell Park Domes and the Milwaukee Art Museum I received a call from the art museum indicateing that they would no longer host public perfromances there.
The director of events was very sad for us because she knew we had conducted ourselves very well and sounded wonderful last year. She spoke at length with me about how this did not reflect her opinion, but rather it was felt that the sound interfered with meetings and the like.
So, grades 5-8 will not go on any fieldtrip in December. Our years of perfroming at the Domes is getting a bit old and I will not persue that venue this year either.
Now for the new event.
St. Paul's Parish School in Genesee Depot started a band program for the first time in their school's history this year. Former and retired director of bands at Marquette University Dr. Nick Contorno who is a parish member there has been in cummunication with me for a couple of years now about how we structure and run our band program here at St. Mary's.
St. Paul's has invited our bands to visit thier school and perfrom a concert for their new and few band members. Probably the entire student body aswell. As Dr. Contorno put it, "We want you to show the kids what they could sound like in the future". Needless to say how honored I am that we can be such an influence as music ministers to another parish school.
As we prepair for our "Showcase Concert" over January, February and March we will be looking to arrange a time for our performance at St. Paul's. Probably in March.
It is my hope that I can arrange another demension to our fieldtrip to St. Paul's. More later as details are arranged.
